Subject

Experiences Growing up in West Augustine

Description

Evelyn Owens describes her experiences growing up in a small house with large family of 14. She recalls the daily work and her mother’s strictness. There were luxuries that they had like a radio and had not like a phone. She reminisces her close relations with neighbors and with relatives. She tells where they went outside the neighborhood, shops, school, and the beach. Also, a bit of how they avoided certain places, like downtown. She talks about her later husband and special places where he worked. She notes the community has changed with people no longer as close and small family stores she knew are now gone.
