Title

Lula Mae Wise

Description

Lula Mae Wise moved from Georgia to Florida in 1952 right out of high school. Wise wanted to pursue a college career. Raised on a farm, Wise was a jack of all trades; she knew how to sew, cook and can vegetables. She moved to St. Augustine in 1958. She worked various jobs in order to go to college. Her parents never got to see her graduate. In 1969, Wise graduated and got a job as a teacher’s aide. She was already married and had six kids by the time she was out of college. She taught her kids how to cook and sew. Every income tax refund, Wise and her husband earned went to renovating their home. Her husband worked at Fairchild Aircraft Company but was laid off. In 1999, her husband passed away. In May 1999, Wise quit teaching after 30 years. She loved to teach. Wise still lives in the same house and is a grandmother.
