Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach was originally settled by a group of freed African American slaves after the civil war. In 1885 a hurricane struck the beach discouraging the settlement. The land was bought by a group of men but it remained untouched until the 1920s. Gus Edwards bought the land and the city was established June 5th 1925 and became a city on June 9 1957. It is a popularly tourist destination due to the space center being only 15 minutes away. Many workers from the space program moved here and raised their kids here. It has also been a spot of tv shows like "I dream of Jeanie
