Community

The Cox Family served their community in many ways. During the 1960s, the town was celebrating its 400th anniversary and building historic sites with dreams of being a Spanish-colonial Williamsburg.

Women were integral to these efforts and Mrs. Cox joined the Hispanic Garden Committee to raise funds for the walled garden that stood next to the Pan American Center (now the pink building across St. George Street from the Columbia Restaurant). The garden still blooms in this spot.

The Women's Exchange is an active local organization. Here members in Spanish colonial costumes sing in a tradition Mimi and Margo referred to as "mumming." Margo is actively involved with The Women's Exchange today.

One event the girls attended was a "Loud Skirt Night" fundraiser for the Pilot Club. Awards were given for the most beautiful, and loudest patterned, one!
